DATE: 2024-10-16      SOURCE: MARA

Deng Xiaogang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, visited Peru from Aug. 17–20 at the invitation of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation of Peru. He held talks with Minister Manero in Lima on Aug. 20. They exchanged views on strengthening agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

Vice Minister Deng noted that, with the support and guidance of the heads of state of both countries, China and Peru have achieved positive results in bilateral agricultural cooperation. The cooperation mechanism is operating smoothly, exchanges in S&T are deepening, and bilateral trade is growing steadily. Vice Minister Deng said that the purpose of his visit was to implement the consensus reached by the heads of state of China and Peru during their meeting in Beijing this June and to discuss measures for pragmatic cooperation in agriculture with the Peruvian side. China hopes to further deepen cooperation with Peru in areas such as personnel exchanges and training, S&T exchanges and R&D, and trade and investment, thereby enriching the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Minister Manero agreed with Vice Minister Dengs suggestions, saying that Peru attaches great importance to agricultural cooperation with China. Peru looks forward to enhancing cooperation with China in areas such as exchanges among agricultural technicians, germplasm resources sharing, agro-product trade, and the development of farmland irrigation projects.
